They said that both are split to whiteface, based on Susanne's information on signs of a split. Susanne is a phenomenal observer and most people on TC took everything she said as gospel. But Susanne knows the nuances of her signs a lot better than anybody else, and might have given a different answer if she had still been active in the group at that time. She also tends to be overconfident about how reliable the signs are and treat them as an infallible indicator rather than a possible indicator. I treat them as a possible indicator myself. Feather coloring is variable, and it looks to me like there are exceptions to every rule.

They would have had gorgeous chicks. But I'm not sure whether they could produce whiteface lutinos, and I do get those from Buster and Shodu sometimes. Mims has the sign of a whiteface split (just like every other bird in the house that isn't visual whiteface), but Ladybug demonstrates that the sign isn't always accurate. A lot of my birds actually are split whiteface - all of Shodu's children are at least split to it, and Buster and Azazel have proved that they have the split. But who knows about the others. If I could get them to pair up with a competent, appropriate mate I could find out.

I actually understood everything you said. It's starting to click. Okay, so let's use Jaid as an example. Jaid's father would either have to be a lutino or carry the lutino gene and his mother would also have to be lutino or carry the lutino gene for Jaid to be a lutino cock?

That's right. We know for sure that Jaid's mother was lutino because a lutino mother is required to get a lutino boy. We know that his dad had the lutino gene too but we don't know whether he was visual or split.

We also know that both of Beaker's parents had the whiteface gene but we don't know whether they were visual or split. Looks like at least one of them had the pied gene too because he has a tickmark, but at least one of his parents was NOT visual pied. When both parents are pied then all the babies will be pied too, and Beaker is only split.

Beaker also has ghost pearls, so that means he's either pearl or split?

Pearl, split or spot gene lol. I sometimes wonder how reliable an indicator ghost pearls really are. An awful lot of males seem to have them. What's weird about the spot gene causing ghost pearls on the wings is that the male never had markings in this area to begin with, but developed them later.

Isn't the spot gene a part of the pearl gene? They definitely seem to be linked, in some way or another.

I thought spot gene was related to whiteface.

The spot gene is mysterious. It might or might not be related to the pearl gene. It seems to be correlated with whiteface but I don't know why. There's more about it here: http://www.littlefeatheredbuddies.com/i ... tgene.html

Well, Lucy has the spot gene, though it's rather faint. She doesn't have very many spots, and they're actually yellow (probably because she's a normal yellow face). If it is correlated with whiteface, then would that be because she's split with whiteface?
