Teela had bright red eyes when she was a baby, but the signature picture was taken when she was older. Oh well that explains it lol.Since im keeping one of the babies would I be better to pick one and hand feed it or leave it with all the rest and still get tame babies as I will be socialising them all and interacting with them to keep them tame.

You can socialize them just by handling them, but it works faster if you do some handfeeding too. The first time a cockatiel baby opens its eyes, it realizes that you are NOT its father or mother and it HATES you for that. There's a lot of "go away and leave me alone" screeching in the beginning. Like this: And I thought their feed me noise was bad. They sound like bloodthirsty aliens! And well, I'm pretty sure the fact that you don't look like a bird would give away their first clue. If by any chance you hand feed, and they see you before they see their bird parents, and get fed by you before the bird parents, then they might think of you as the dad. Kinda think of it... DO we have an article here on how to hand rear? I was looking on the main website, but I can't seem to find one. Well, there are a lot of guides and video tutorials online that you can find.

Yes, the fact that you don't look like a cockatiel is apparently what gives it away. They've never actually seen a cockatiel before, but somehow they still know that you aren't one. I find that it's helpful to handle the babies every day before their eyes open. It seems to help them get used to your presence so they don't go quite as insane when their eyes open. Shortly before that video I had SIX of them screaming at me like that, but the three youngest ones got tired and gave up on it by the time I got the camera. I don't have an article on handfeeding because I don't think it's something that can really be learned by reading. The best way to learn is to have someone with experience teach you, so ask your mother to show you how it's done, and have her sit with you the first few times you do it so she can help you improve your technique. You can also google for handfeeding videos on youtube in addition to having your mother teach you. This will help you see other techniques and get more helpful hints.
