In February of this year a person at bird club gave me 4 adult cockatiels and 5 babies in the nest. They wanted to rehome the birds because the hen was starting a new clutch and they didn't know how to cope with all the breeding. I don't think I ever posted the information on my new flock members here, so I'm belatedly doing it now. I sold the babies but I'm keeping the adults, who are shown below:

Elvis (male)

Elvis deserves his name, too. I have 7 adult males and he's the best singer in the flock.

Well now THAT story is a soap opera. The hen (Ladybug) mated with all three males so if you ask the chicks "who's your daddy", nobody knows the answer. Azazel is starting to wander away from this foursome and cast his eye on Mims (who is already involved in a triangle with Vlad and Snowy). But Elvis is still singing his most passionate love songs to Ladybug, who prefers Pip over all her other mates.

Vlad occasionally sings love songs to Pip (who is male). Teela and Squeebis are a brother/sister incest pair. Henry is in love with his mother Shodu, who ignores him except for yanking out his crest feathers every now and then. The love life of the cockatiel is a complicated affair.

and i thought MY birds were complicated lol

my lovebirds are an incest love/hate pair. love eachother but cant be caged together before munch starts bullying mango over whats hers and whats not his...

my tiels, tsuka loves dally... sings to her, protects her from "threats", keeps her away from competition, screams if he cant see her...
dally loves me, screams for me, wants nothing to do with tsuka. tsuka kicks her off of perches and food bowls (why i have so many in their cage lol)

thats what failed with my breeding attempt. wrong kind of bonding. they mated, but dally was using poor tsuka. wouldnt let him in the nest box for nothing and only wanted me there and would want scritches in the nest box from me and was never aggressive with me, just tsuka. and tsuka was even worse back to her... so not a good pair. before that they werent so bad... but ive learned and wont be attemting that again

I call my birds' love/hate relationships "cockatiel politics". In a mixed species flock like yours you could call it avian politics.
