The cage is 42 inches wide by 26 inches deep, and the interior varies from 35 to 51 inches high. With the legs and everything it's about 5 feet tall. It has a removable partition in the middle that I usually don't use, but right now I need somewhere to keep the older chicks where they can't bother the nestbox so I've partitioned the cage. The parents are on the left side because that's where the nestbox door is, the chicks are on the right side, and Vlad and Mims are in a different cage. Here's an old picture:

Chicks go through a phase where their feet grow WAY faster than the rest of their body, and the two oldest chicks in the new clutch are at that stage right now. The rest of their body will catch up in a couple of weeks! I want to look for homes for the older chick at the next bird club meeting on June 15.

P.S. I got the cage from Tri Birds, which seems to be out of business now. Drs Foster and Smith has the same cage at http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=16502 but I got it for a lot less!

Tielfan, your new babies are so cute. Your grown babies are beautiful. I really like that cage. I was looking at that for sale at our bird fairs. It was about $250.00 here. It's really a nice cage, especially for tiels. If I could get one with 1/2 inch bar spacing for my parrotlet, I would. Thats how much I like it. Plus, I love the play area on top.

As far as I know this cage was never made with 1/2" spacing, just 5/8" and 1". The bars are fairly thick and I've never seen 1/2" spacing with that kind of bars - the narrower widths generally use thinner wires. $250 is a spectacular price though! I got the cage for $450 with free shipping and thought it was a bargain. It's a great cage and I love it.

I know it does not come in half inch spacing. I already had it checked out. It's really hard to find a huge cage with half inch bar spacing. I have contacted many cage vendors and cage makers. They just don't think people will buy a cage that big for a little bird that has to have half inch bar spacing. Happy would get out of a 5/8 or 1 inch bar spacing cage. LOL It would be useless to even have a cage they could just walk out of between the bars. That cage may have even been $199.00 here at a fair. I can't remember but the lower price keeps coming to mind. I know it's a super deal. That's why I wanted it and tried to find out if they made it in half inch but no such size. DARN!! I would have bought it immediately if I had found it in that size.

This is just guessing, but I think that maybe the reason they don't make cages with the heavy bars and 1/2" spacing is because it wouldn't look very good. There would be almost as much metal as there is open space.

The heavy bars are good for large cages because they give the cage a lot of weight which makes it very stable on the floor - if you bump into it you aren't likely to knock it over. There are large cages made of the thinner wire of course but they aren't as solid.
