But could you encourage a certain pair to like one another if you separate them out and keep them together for a few weeks? I'm not saying to encourage breeding or anything, just have them hang together in the same cage for a few weeks to see if suddenly they realize how awesome these girls are. Is that something that might work?

That could work. I'm actually going to breed Levi and Maple this breeding season. They have interest in each other. I'm just going to separate them into the breeding cage. I hope he gets over Marshmallow. If this plan works it's going to be so good for me.

A lot of show breeders pair their birds with a different mate every year by separating them this way. You tend to have fewer problems and get better breeding results when cockatiels are allowed to choose their own mate, but it can definitely work. I don't think Baruch's boys have fully considered the possibilities, and if they just open their eyes they might decide that they like Maya very much indeed.
