Here's a picture of the newer babies that was taken on Sunday:
Image

Their names, in order of age, are Boogie, Woogie, Biff, and Snowbird. Not that I can actually tell Boogie and Woogie apart!

It looks to me like Boogie and Woogie are cinnamon, which means yet another genetic surprise. Like lutino, cinnamon is a sex-linked trait so if these chicks are actually cinnamon they have to be girls and they had to have gotten the trait from their dad. These two chicks fledged this morning.

Biff is whiteface, and doesn't have enough feathers yet for me to be sure if he/she is gray or cinnamon. Snowbird is a whiteface lutino girl.

Yep, they look like Cinnamon to me. They are all so gorgeous! Those parents sure have beautiful babies.

So far I've only adopted out one chick from the first clutch so I have 13 cockatiels in the house: 4 adults, 5 chicks from the first clutch, and 4 chicks from the second clutch. The youngest two are still in the nest but the other 11 are out and about. It's pretty wild when a bunch of them fly around the room in a circle.

P.S. Buster and Shodu want to make some more babies but more than two clutches per year is dangerous for the hen. So I've turned into the cockatiel birth control supervisor! It isn't enough to keep them apart since she can lay infertile eggs without any help from him. I have to disrupt their hormone cycle so they go out of breeding mode. It takes a while to do this but it seems like it's starting to work.

At least you are doing it the right way. I know of someone that just kept breeding them.
