This may be the last true update on this specific thread.

But I just want to know how amazing our progress has been. Lucy is sitting on my shoulder, messing with my hair. She's gotten over hand-pickyness, as I'm able to use both hands for scritching wile not only sitting on my hand, but while sitting on my shoulder.

Just a few minutes ago, she started literally getting into my hair, and I could feel her face rubbing against my cheek. I believe she was actually asking me for scritches.

She still likes to throw a hissy-fit (or sometimes, a "squawky-fit") when I ask her to step up while in the cage, but she's stopped flying back to her cage when I get her out the door, and she is completely fine once she is out. She is comfortable anywhere now, as long as she's on my shoulder, and she loves looking out the windows to both the front, and back yard (butterflies and hummingbirds intrigue her a lot, but not as much as our desert tortoise does, when she walks past the window). She gets excited when she sees or hears a bird, probably because of the whole flock mentality (one time, there was a bird singing, and she was pacing back and forth, and everything).

She chirps in my ear every once in a while, thankfully not too loud. I hope this doesn't become a habit of hers. If it does, hopefully it won't turn into screaming. My mom once had a conure that would fly to her shoulder, and scream in her ear.

I'm going to try and work on getting her to know her name, and then getting her to to fly to me. It's going to be quite a bit of a proccess, but I think we'll get there. :)

Yay, I'm glad that everything is blissful now! It's been almost but not quite two months since the summer bird mart, and two months seems to be the "settling in" timeframe for a LOT of cockatiels. It's happened to me repeatedly with birds that I bought as handfed babies. Once in a while there's one that settles down instantly, for example Shodu immediately made herself at home and all I had to do to earn her trust was hold some food in my hand. But most of them need a certain amount of time to realize that their new home is a nice, safe place to be.

They NEVER stop having the hissy fits lol. If you put your hand near them when they're not interested, they will let you know about it.

Indeed. And it's kinda funny looking back at how much trouble I was having and how much I was ready to give up. All that frustration between us. I think Lucy was trying too, to work with me, though I wasn't really the cooperative one. It took me until when I noticed my dog staring at her when the cage door was open, to realize what the problem was.

She's been patient, though. She never bit to intend harm, but more so as a reality check.

There's still a slight bit of tension on the dog's side (he gets jealous, even though he has the majority of the day with me to himself), though I've been able to pet her in front of him. I would like to socialize them to each other, though I still don't want him in the bedroom when I have Lucy with me, since it's like her dog-free sanctuary. Besides. She's getting really comfortable, while in here, considering she's getting vocal. If she starts singing, I might actually get a good video. :) (the times before, the tv in the next room was on, so it would still be hard to hear).

She's getting used to scritches while on the laptop. Might be able to get a picture, soon. :) Might have to get her a playstand from the upcoming bird show, for her. Or a small stand for her to look out the window, and keep her occupied.

Just now, she... Kinda flew to me. She flew to my kayboard, and I didn't bother to fetch her, so she flew to my closet. I held my hand out and called her. Her take off wasn't that steady, so instead of landing on my hand, she landed next to me, on the bed. Looks like we're already two steps forward. Now if she could do that more often.

I would love it if I cout get her to fly on command. It's a great exercise for her, mentally and physically, and in order to keep her as healthy as possible, she definitely needs her exercise. Considering her wings are clipped, shows how strong of a flyer she is, and I plan on keeping it that way. :)

Dudley needs to strengthen his wings as well, so I plan on recall training him as well. He can't fly well at all. He can get some distance, with his flapping, but he can't generate much lift.
