Actually they usually want a few feathers from the breast. The number of feathers depends on the size of the bird - bigger birds have bigger quills with more DNA on the tip.

Hi Robert, about greens I have experimented with sprouting a bit and have noticed that if I let the sprouts grow some will resemble grass. I put them in a little plate and let them grow, then offer the plate to my birds, and they enjoy munching and pulling them very much.

My Amarillo was bought from a pretty unethical private pet store that only feeds seed. He's a little hesitant about eating anything other than seed. My Piper on the other hand will munch just about anything I put in there. I've been hanging a slice of apple from the top of their cage and Piper probably eats 75% of it and Amarillo eats about 25% of it when he finally realizes it's food.

Amarillo will learn a lot from watching Piper. She might always get the first serving, since hens tend to be more assertive than cocks. But once he catches on fully he'll want to get his share.
