Today was the bird club Christmas party. I did not win the raffle. Goodbye sweet Prince.

Oh no, that's sad. But, at least during the time you had him you socialized him and built up his confidence.

I'll miss him, but I still have 13 cockatiels to keep me company. Which is about twice as many as I really ought to have, so I don't feel like there's a shortage of birds here.

I'm sorry you didn't win him. He's a very handsome birdie.

At least now I know what the princess-owning experience is like (fun!). If a POW gives me the come-hither at one of next year's bird marts I just might buy it.

Aw, too bad! He sounded sweet and was super pretty. I can't imagine that you wouldn't find one at next year's bird mart like the one we just had... it seemed like there was every single type of parrot represented there and more! My husband is still liking the idea of getting toucanets (which will never happen because NO and hello, the pair was like $2500 and last I checked, our money tree wasn't bearing any fruit).

The toucan family requires a low iron diet and lots of tropical fruits. The low iron pellets can be hard to find in some areas.

Speaking of non-parrots, I was offered a laughing kookaburra a few years ago. I turned it down though. It was very mean. Ever been bit by a kookaburra? It's like a mousetrap. Just snaps down on you.

Oo, I'm pretty sure I saw some type of kookaburra at the bird fair too! Very pretty but also very scary (to me) looking birds. LOL

There were two different vendors at the October bird mart who had princess parakeets, and I expect them to be back with more next year. The vendor who had the toucanets has already rented a space for the spring bird mart, but if I remember right this was the first time they brought toucanets so I don't know whether they'll have more next year. I don't think there were any actual kookaburras, but there were some very exotic species there.

Mmmm.... toucanets. This photo was taken at the bird mart.

Thank you for posting that! I was trying to explain to my husband what they looked like. I'm sure I'm mistaking kookaburras with something else I saw there, which is not surprising since I'm a total noob. And the finches, my god the finches! I had no idea there were so many kinds.
