Hi everybody,
I was wondering how often and for how long do you let your birds out of their cages?

Few hours. Maybe about 3. Everyday if I can. It depends on the cat's current status and if she will go out or not.

A couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the late afternoon.

It varies. Sometimes it's all day and sometimes it's a lot less than that. The birds are out of the cage whenever I'm home and in the cage when I'm not home.

are they all very tame so it takes no time to get them back into cages when you need to leave?
or is your schedule such that you just don't let them out in the morning if you know that you, say, going to work?

Some of them are very tame and others are less tame. But even the ones that are the least tame are trained to step up on a stick, and it's usually not too difficult to get them to go into the cage. The males tend to be the most balky, but I have a trick that works pretty well when that happens - I put their favorite hen in the cage first, and they're usually very willing to go in after that!

It can be a pain when I have fledglings in the house. They like being out of the cage a lot more than being in it, and every year there's at least one who has to be chased for ten minutes before they'll go in.

Mine don't come out because they are aviary birds. I can bring one in the house occasionally but it's not going to be longer than 30 minutes because they miss each other. I play with them in their house.

Peach comes out every day. Always in the morning and sometimes later in the day. If I have a quiet day she is out all day with me. She is in her cage in my office which is where I am much of the day weekdays so that's when she's out most.
Also, I don't keep food outside her cage so she comes in and out. If I need to keep her in I don't usually have a problem hooking her door when she is inside having a snack.

When I'm home and they're awake, they are usually out. If my elderly cat is having a frisky day or if we have company over or if we're going in and out of the house (like bbq-ing for example), they're in their cages. Other than that, though, my setup with the cages and the playgym works pretty well. Since they stay to their little corner of the room setup for the most part, there isn't much benefit to keep them in their cages right now, so I let them out to play.

When summer hits, I might need to use my ceiling fan at times though, so our out of cage time may change.
