I want to take my bird to a nice park with a lot of nature but I want to know if it's weird. I get very shy in public and don't like attention. On one side, I want people noticing my pretty bird but on the other, I'm kind of nervous for people laughing at me. Is it weird to take a parrot outdoors? Is it for older people? I have seen aviator harness commercials and all the people I see is in their 60's. I don't want to be the weird teen who takes his bird for walks. I sort of wish there was another bird lover who can take their birds for walks with me and my bird. That would be pretty cool.

It's unusual so you will get some attention, but it's not likely that people will laugh at you. They're more likely to want to talk to you about your pretty bird!

Frick no. I take Medusa all over the place with me and nothing happens. Just slap her around my neck and I'll take her to the park across the creek.

I plan on doing the same with Lucy once I can get her harness trained. It's definetely not common to see, but people do it. I believe it would be the same kind of attention if you bring a dog into a public area, and people will want to pet it. However, since a bird is not that common, more people will probably want to come up to you and pet, or ask questions. Of course, you are allowed to tell them that he doesn't like strangers, and that he may bite, if you don't feel comfortable letting strangers touch him.

I once saw a woman with an umbrella cockatoo on her shoulder at the local pet store near me. I was interested in the bird, but since she was checking out as I was entering, I decided not to bother her. Some people just don't bother, because they don't want to feel like they're bugging you.

I think the most you'll get looks from are little kids, who are curious, and want to touch everything.

There is this really nice park that people take to walk their dogs. It's big and its full of nature. There are dogs there also. Some on a leash and some not. Would it be safe to take my bird there? I have a bit of a fear of dogs so I might panic if one runs after me. Do you think I should go or is it too risky?

Maybe a bit risky but you could keep Rio on your shoulder or stay away from dogs off leads. Is there an area where theres not much dogs. Also not all dogs like to chase birds. One of my old dogs got hold of Tiko once and almost killed her but I think Tiko won the fight as she made our dogs stomach bleed. Some dogs just want to kill birds.I find shih tzus to be very peaceful dogs.

I say no. Like what happened to Tiko, Freddy could get snatched off you and he could get hurt. You could always just take him around the block or even to a different park, because I don't trust dogs; they'll just act out of instinct and could go for it if they get the chance.

And, no. If anything, people don't even notice. She blends in with everything. so most of the time she can't even be seen on me.
