When you are ready, ask us what to do with hardware cloth to make it safe for birds. I also built similar frames and one of my babies got sick (presumably from the excess zink on the wire). She recovered though.

I didn't know how to do any of this stuff when I started out either. I had to learn it as I went along. I could have built everything a lot faster if I actually knew what I was doing lol.

I screwed a strip of wood to the left and right sides of the door opening and attached the hinges and latches to that. I could have attached everything directly to the actual door opening, but there are fewer holes in the real door frame this way. You can see on the left side of this picture that there's the real door frame, then a strip of wood, then a small space and the screen door. You can see a hinge on the right side of the picture - one side of the hinge is attached to the screen door and the other side is attached to the wood strip.

Is that Buster on the background? Or is it Priscilla?

what is a whole idea of having this screen door? TO let them look out of the room?

It looks like one of the males in the background but I can't tell which one it is.

The screen door keeps them inside the bird room where it's nice and safe instead of roaming randomly all over the house.

I think what Chipper is trying to ask, is: Why can't you just close the door to keep them in?

Because it gets very hot in the summertime, and that room is especially prone to heating up because it's on the southwest corner of the house. Having a screen door instead of closing the solid door means better air circulation and better room temperatures. It's also a lot easier for me to see the birds.
