I know nothing about how them as compainions. Could someone give me some insight on how their personalities are and their tempement? Personally, they seem like a bird I may consider down the road.

We have a parrotlet breeder at the local bird club who sometimes gives us a talk about them. The following is what she says.

Parrotlets have a reputation for supreme aggressiveness lol. It's often said that they have an Amazon's personality in a parrotlet's body. They're also very curious and playful, and generally fearless.

This tends to be their undoing. They don't hesitate to attack a MUCH larger bird, and when they pick a fight with with a macaw or cockatoo the fight frequently ends with a dead parrotlet. Parrotlets can kill a bird that isn't too much bigger than them, like a budgie or cockatiel. In a fight between a p'let and a lovebird, it's hard to predict who would kill whom.

Some individuals can get along with other birds fairly well, but you should always supervise.

You can't keep a parrotlet in the same cage with any other bird except for a compatible parrotlet of opposite sex. Two same-sex birds may appear to get along OK at first, but sooner or later you're going to need a tiny coffin.

They'll play with any size toy and try to eat any size food. So if you want to offer them a macaw toy or macaw food, go for it - the p'let will be game.

They aren't loud because they aren't capable of making loud shrieks like bigger parrots can. From what I've seen I'd say they're about the same noise level as a budgie - or less!

Because of their small size, it's very easy for them to get 'lost' when they're out of the cage. They like to go exploring, and can easily end up in some place where they'll be accidentally killed because the human had no idea they were there.

Very good advise from tielfan...
I have 3 P'lets...2 girls and a boy...
Where do I start.... they look very angelic...wrong... they are very feisty birds with a bite that sure hurts... one of my girls Sky, I cant handle without a soft glove on as she bites me as soon as she can... saying this my daughter comes home after working away for 4 months and Sky greets her and my daughter can do anything with her... just doesn't like me.. no reason...
Mint is easier to handle but will bite if you don't give her all your attention...
Both girls luv to be cuddled up in a soft towel and be cuddled... Mine are celestial pacific...
Now we get to Scooby-doo... he is totally different ...gentle and has never bitten anyone.. a very social bird...all 3 are nearly 6 years old... Another thing with P'lets they are not a flock bird you can only keep them in pairs... even then they can attack each other and cause great damage.. mine are kept separately and meet up out of the cage for play time... If I had my time again I'd only have one and a boy....
Here's a pic of mine....
the one on his won is Scooby-doo

I think parrotlets are utterly adorable even though they are little monsters lol. I'd love to have one but I'm afraid of what it would do to the tiels. And to my fingers.

If I wanted to get another species I'd be better off with a budgie or one of the other small grass keets. Some are lovely. I also like the somewhat larger Princess of Wales parakeet. Yum. All Australian and reasonably compatible with cockatiels.

In my place of volunteering, I handle all sorts of birds (including kookaburras, toucans and toucanetes), parrotlets are one of the frequent flyers (pun intended). I love the little buggers, but I don't know too much about them as pets. I just know they are little fireballs, who have an incredibly strong beak. From that size, that beak should not be that powerful. I would say their bite is equivalent to a GGC.

Small birds tend to have sharp beaks so they can deliver more pain than you'd expect.

There bite is hard and they hang on for dear life..
I'd not be without mine really, but I do think
one on its own, is better for a pet...
Very cuddly...I find they are fine with my tiels,
but I don't risk having them out with them...
Yes a budgie is lovely... good choice and mine luvs
the tiels.... they don't go much on him tho!

That's a lizard, a gila monster. I love them to death! They are like scaled cats.

Since you did so, here is my scaled child Medusa.
