Poppy finally just chirped! I was talking to him and he just started to chirp for a couple of minutes. Jaid answered him, but Beck didn't seem to care. He was too busy regurgitating to his star toy.

And I think he is starting to warm up. He really wants to come out and fly, but how can I get him back into the cage? He even jumped to the front of the cage to see me. :cheery:

Stephanie can you let him out in a smaller room? I have no idea where he is now but the smaller the room the easier will be to get to him if he flies away. And him being so young I doubt he's a strong flier yet... you should be able to get him back.
I wish I could see you running after lil Poppy :D

A small room is best when you're working with a fully flighted bird. How strong a flyer he is will depend on how much opportunity he had to fly at the breeder's house. A baby who's had the opportunity to learn to fly will fly round and round the room just for the fun of it - I call this "crazy chickie time". It can take a while for them to get tired enough to start cooperating.

He practically got no time out, the only time was for handfeeding, and once he was weened they never did. I'll wait until he tires out. But the only room I can let him fly in is my room. I have a tiny house, so my room is small, but we don't have any closet doors. Is that a problem? Honestly, I think he'll avoid it sense he doesn't know what they are.

He'll learn to fly well with you. It hasn't been all that long since he left the nest so he hasn't missed too much. Just try to minimize any obvious dangers and keep an eye on him until he's learned what to do and what not to do. The wing-flapping part of flying is instinctive, but steering, landing, and not smacking into solid objects has to be learned. That's one of the advantages of a small room - the bird can't build up too much speed because he can't travel very far in a straight line. So when he does crash into something he doesn't hit it too hard. With baby cockatiels at least, they always have to hit the wall a few times before they learn to avoid it.

How about using the bathroom or the toilet room?
Just make sure the loo lid is down 1st...
you must have doors on either of those rooms?
Easy to catch Poppy in there too.
