Beck is a recessive pied. His cere is pink. I come home today and his cere is BLUE. It's been pink for 3 years. And I saw him regurgitate to a toy. That was actually fascinating. I've never seen it in person. Pretty sure he is hormonal over his toy. And me. He is dividing his passion between his star toy and me. Must be why he is being so friendly towards me. But back to the cere. Blue?

Also I did not ask daddy today because some football game was on or whatever and he seemed distracted. I want to ask with a clear mind slate. Plus, I'm started not too feel good today, I think I'm coming down with bronchitis or pneumonia. Boy, I hope it's not pneumonia. 3 years ago it just about killed me. So I probably won't be going to school tomorrow. I'll ask then.

Some football game = the Super Bowl. Or the Superb Owl, as Stephen Colbert calls it. I hope you feel better soon - is it possible that football makes you sick? Because it has that effect on me lol.

I don't have a really solid answer to your cere question. But based on the cere discussions and research of the last couple days, I have the impression that blue color in the cere is associated with testosterone, and that males get intensified blue color in the cere when they're hormonal. In general it apparently isn't as noticeable as the color changes in a hen's cere. But maybe it can be very noticeable in a male with a mutation-related pink cere. The website at http://cutelittlebirdiesaviary.weebly.c ... guide.html says the cere color in recessive pied adult males is pink to purple. I had assumed that this was an unchanging color, but maybe it's actually variable.

Blue is the normal color for an adult male's cere, and it always looks pretty much the same (to our eyes at least - budgie hens might be paying more attention lol). But there are certain mutations that interfere with the normal cere color, and these males typically have a cere color in the pink-to-purple range.

No, it's not football. I don't really care for it though. My dad is really sickly and I got that from him. So I get severely sick a lot. The pneumonia was the worst though. The sickness itself wasn't killing me, but I actually almost starved to death believe it or not. I weighed as much as a healthy 6 year old child at 13 years old. Took me years to put back all that weight.

But anyway, as I thought, I didn't go to school today, so I'll try and ask later.

Thank you. I asked again, he said he was still thinking about it, but with more positivity in his voice. No matter, the chicks still are not ready yet. I think I still have a week to go until they are ready for homes.
