TO CLIP OR NOT TO CLIP
I have been thinking of clipping Mango's wings but they are too beautiful to clip lol and it would probably take a year for them all to fully grow back I know he will be able to fly in a few months after but won't have all his flight feathers until about a year.Im thinking it will help him with his fear of hands since he won't be flying away and will stay close to me to get used to me and he has been doing good stepping on the perch.Should I CLIP or NOT.

It's your decision to make in the end. Keep in mind that clipping isn't an "all or nothing" proposition, where the choices are between full flighted and not being able to fly at all. You can always clip a small number of feathers on the outermost edge of the wing. He'll still be able to fly, but not as far or as fast, and he'll have to work harder to go somewhere. So he'll be less inclined to spend a lot of time flying away from you.

Even if you do decide later to go ahead and clip him, I would still suggest not clipping him too hard. Birds that have a problem with their feet often use wing-flapping to help them climb and do other things, so you don't want to limit his capabilities too much.

Yes, the decision is up to you as it depends on many factors, including bird's personality, ability to fly well without getting hurt etc. If he's doing well without being clipped it is good you decided not to clip.

He now steps up on my arm still afraid of hands and gets on well with the cockatiels so thats good.

Birds tend to be more afraid of hands than any other body part. I think it's because our hands can move so quickly that they seem more dangerous than the rest of us. But holding bird treats in our hands is a good way to make them seem more appealing.

My theory as to why some birds are afraid of hands, rests on instincts.

A lot of predator birds use their talons to catch their prey, and hands are the closest things we have to talons, then it's possible that it's the bird's instinct to watch out for them.

However, I've seen the fear develop more off of the bird's experience with hands. If they haven't had any handling outside of being grabbed and taken somewhere else, then it would be understandable as to why they're afraid.

Yeah like how people in pet shops or breeders grab them to give them to their new owner.
