if you do...
I know some people here have lots of birds, so I was wondering what you do if you need to go for a trip. Some of my ideas include: household member who stays home takes care of the birds, birds are housed in somebody else' house while you're gone, birds go to a bird hotel... or you just stay home and never travel. Looks like my situation is the last one and it upsets me.

I go all over the world at least twice a year... luckily for me, my husband cant travel due to bad health so he bird sits.....if he didn't I wouldn't go anywhere, as I don't trust anyone but him and myself to look after my birds...

It's a problem for me too. When I travel alone my husband cares for my pets. When we go together, we have a friend who comes in every day to feed and let the dogs out. I hate leaving them though. Last year we were gone for a week and when I got home 2 off my favorite fish were gone.

We have a local bird store. They have tons of birds, and they have what they call "bed and breakfast" to watch the birds while the owner is out of town (it's a separate room). It's 5 bucks a day per cage.....would you trust a place like this?

Try it overnight when you are not really out of town and you could walk in and check things out. Also, ask for references.

Another option is to have a person that you trust come to your house once a day to take care of the birds.

Another way....
Ask someone you trust would they like to live in your home for the time your away... this way the house is safe and also the birds have company and are looked after...
I know nothing about stores looking after birds... I don't think its an option here...

my birds would get crazy staying in the cage all the time so it would be the last resort.
Honestly , I don't know anybody who might be interested living in my house, everybody has families with own pets.
One of my friends asked a teenage relative to stay in her house during her vacation, they have 2 dogs (and paid him $300 to do it). She stuffed her fridge with food for him, and left lots of food for dogs. Something went wrong, I think he was too scared to stay in the empty house by himself (what a BS!), the dogs were starved (not to death) and lots of other bad things happen. I think one dog made her way out, and so on... The guy KEPT the money, and she didn't want to conflict because he was her husband's relative... Next summer he was hired again and did much better job.

well. it's not a store like Petco. It's not huge, locally owned, and they only have birds in there. I have seen their hotel room being pretty full, which means that people do use them to bird sitting. What would be the worst thing to happen?
Still always in the cage, they would be fed (not fancy food, of course) and could talk to surrounding birds. I wouldn't leave them like this for a long time but for a few days it would work

by the way, personal stories are still welcome, if it's something you don't mind talking about.
