So I'm trying to type up something, and I have Lucy-bird with me, since she's my (self-proclaimed) bird assistant. She's on the keyboard, watching the screen. I get distracted and look away for about a minute, and notice that both of her feet were pressing down the backspace key, and about half of what I got written was deleted. So I shoo her off the keyboard (she wasn't happy about that), and had to type everything up again.

Now she gets really defensive when my finger is near the backspace.

Thank you, my little self-proclaimed bird assistant. Didn't know she was heavy enough to press a key down. It seems she is able to press one down, only if all of her weight is on it. Either that, or if she's pressing it down with her beak (which is what she does while trying to chew on another key. *sigh*).

Honestly, she just knows how to keep me on my toes.

I think that was her intent, as well. Ever since I started college, I brought her with me to my room to do my homework. I guess she feels she's being a part of something, when she's trying to eat my keyboard, or whatever looks interesting on the screen (she tries to catch the mouse, sometimes). That's why I call her my "self-proclaimed bird assistant".

Either that, or she gets bored, and tries to give me a hard time. Ironically, I lay out toys, and things to chew on, but no. She wants to eat the computer, apparently. And so help me when it's almost her bed time. Then it's constant chirping, and the pestering of the keyboard becomes even more persistant, until I finally go to put her back in her cage and cover her up.

I am glad that she is having fun with you and seems to have adjusted to her new life.

AWWWW. I can only imagine how you lucky you are both to have each other. Seems like you were both destined to be together. :)

Birds want what YOU have, and if it's forbidden they want it even more. I can't do cross stitch when Shodu is out because she constantly tries to steal the needle, and she succeeds pretty frequently too.

Yes, she's quite happy here. :) she's also used to the dog (though still somewhat timid around him), which is good, because then I can have them with me at the same time. It's also bad, when they both decide to act up at the same time. my dog tends to be a little needy sometimes, and Lucy gets a bit destructive when she's bored, you can imagine how much of a hassle it can be.

And yes, B. I do feel lucky to be with her. With how much trouble we went through in the beginning, she ended up being a lot of what I wanted in a bird. Not demanding of attention but accepting of it, vocal but not loud, playful, but also calm, and likes being out of the cage, but will wait (most of the time) if she has to. Of course, she's not perfect, but that's what makes her unique. :)

The only problem I really have with her is that sometimes, she doesn't want to step up when I need her to, and she'll argue with me about it. Sometimes, it's hard not to get impatient when this happens.

Indeed, that seems to be the thing with most animals, Carolyn. They always want what they can't have. I've seen this behavior with cows, as while I see them in large fields of green grass, they decide to eat near the fence, because they want the grass that's outside of the field. It's kinda funny how. It works. There are some foods that my dog only eats if he sees someone eating it. And of course, Lucy always wants to chew on things she shouldn't. Even if it's things she's never seen before. It's like she just knows she shouldn't be destroying it, so she wants to do it even more.

You can't fake out a cockatiel either. I've tried to get my birds to eat something or do something by acting like I didn't want them to do it, but it doesn't work. Somehow they KNOW whether you really don't want them to do it, and then it becomes desirable. If you're just pretending, they're not interested.
