We got a reply and he said he is going to check out a house next week and if they are not right he will be coming to us.

My dog is a terrier mix. Not sure on specific news, but I'm pretty sure he's part Cairn terrier, which was bred to be a working dog, as well as a dog meant for hunting rats.
He does have a high prey drive. He chases lizards in the yard all the time. He's starting to get better about the birds, though. Because Lucy drops food for them, he realized that it will benefit him to keep them alive.
My only concern with Bo (my dog) is Alex. Alex is not the best flyer, and when he flies, he usually ends up on the floor (his wings aren't clipped; he's still having trouble figuring out where to land before he gets tired and crashes). Bo has been getting better about not chasing him though.
Dogs are pack animals, and they will follow the rules of the pack leader. If he is trained well enough, then he would most likely be able to keep from trying to get the birds. HOWEVER you can't train out instinct completely, so be prepared for anything.
Also make sure he gets his anual vaccinations. Because westies are bred for hunting rodents, you want to make sure he can't catch things like rabies and such, if you are to end up with mice in the house again in the future (Don't let those tiny legs fool you; if they want to catch something, they'll find a way to do it).

Yes you can take a dog who has a passport out of the country.... but you have to have all the injection/paper work in order. depending where and how the dogs travels it can be expensive....
