Ooh, you've got a lovebird! He's gorgeous, but you'll have to be careful with him around the other birds. Lovebirds tend to be very aggressive and can injure or kill other birds.

That is a lovebird and not a parrotlet, isn't it? I'm second-guessing myself here.

Thanks, I've heard about it. But as he's really young, I think they could get kind of used to eachother, right? I OBVIOUSLY have him in another cage, and I don't plan on leaving them together unsupervised. I just got so excited! I've been crushing on one for a while now, and so I actually got him!

What do you guys think I should name him/her? And what sex do you think it has?

Sometimes lovebirds can get along with other species but this is the exception not the rule. When he gets older his hormone levels will rise and the risk to the other birds will be higher. So even if they seem to get along in the beginning, this might change later. You should always keep him in a different cage than the others, and monitor them when they're out of the cage together.

The internet is indicating that lovebirds aren't dimorphic - males and females look the same. But if you google for lovebird sexing you'll find information on characteristics that can help indicate the sex.

There are several different lovebird species. I don't know much about lovebirds, but I would guess that this is a peach-faced lovebird because it doesn't have an eye ring and the face color is light not dark. It's got the blue mutation but I don't know whether it has any other mutations too. If you google for peachfaced lovebird blue mutation and look at the image results, some of the pictures look very similar to your bird and others have somewhat different coloring on the head. I don't know whether this is a color difference between juveniles and adults, or if there's some other reason for it.

Shoot. I was hoping I could sex this lil' birdie quickly. But, who cares right? Thank you Carolyn.

Also, what do you guys think I should name the bird? I have COMPLETELY no idea. Help?

For now, I'll call the bird "Blue Guy"

You could call him Kablooie (alternate spelling Kablooey). Like the sound of an explosion. I'm being silly here, inspired by the word "blue", so feel free to ignore me.

Another silly idea is to call him Zuul. That's a demon character in the movie Ghostbusters. This idea was inspired by the word 'azul'.

If this is a peach faced lovebird you could call him Percy.

Why you say? Well Peach translates to 'Perzik' in Dutch and Percy is the closest name I could come up with!
