Family members: It's going to be my grandparents. They have had birds before. It's just that they are around 60 years old. I'm worried that the bird is going to scream to the point where they are going to get fed up and let him free outside. If that doesn't happen, theres something else. The bird will attack anyone he doesn't know. What if Rio won't let him change his food and water bowls? They require their hands to go in his cage. I'm worried they'll give up, and he'll starve to death.

I cannot imagine that adequate adults would allow any of this two possibilities. Are you in a good relations with them? Do they love you? I doubt they would let him free, or if there is a problem to change food/water, hopefully they would let you know very soon.
There are cages where you insert food/water bowl thru the slot. I understand you don't want to get another cage but maybe your grandparents have a spare cage of this kind?
I like a suggestion to take the bird there a few days before the due date and get acquainted with new surroundings / people

Thanks guys. Chipper, I know my thoughts are irrational, but when you really love something and have to let them go for a moment, you'll think anything bad will happen.

You say your grandparents are over 60.....I am also, and
I've just committed to looking after my daughter's dog while
she is in the Caribbean for 4 months working..... our garden /home
ect aren't in anyway dog friendly..... but I'm doing it out of love and
respect for her, and so she will not worry too much.....
Your only talking 12days..... give them a try....us oldies are not made
of glass.... sit down with your grandparents and talk it thro.....
What harm can talking do? Let them tell you there worries and you voice yours....
Then you can make a choice of where to leave Rio....

But Jan, you're an animal lover! They haven't had to look after an animal in decades! They won't be able to handle Rio's scream. I know my grandparents. My grandmother HATES noise. I'm not sure about my grandfather though.

Grandparents will do anything to help their grandchildren.....
Even if they don't particularly like what is asked...
Talk to them...you could be very surprised....

Thanks Jan, but I think I have better news. My mom said we can get someone to stay over our house to watch Rio. If we do carry out his plan, I'm going to put Rio's cage downstairs. If not, he'll get over defensive of HIS room. Yeah, I sleep in Rio's room. He likes to take over my stuff. It's a "game" we play.

That'll be good if it's someone reliable and trustworthy. Do you know this person?
