great picture of you two! Congratulations on the dissertation! What field is it?
I think they will be stressed on the first day, but then hopefully they will be thinking - oh well, this is how we going to live now :)
How many birds do you have?

Does someone know how birds react on airplane travel? I think car is less stress but of course much longer.

I have three 'tiels and my doctorate is in medical psychology. :)

I actually looked into the possibility of flying with my birds, but the main issue I ran into (besides the fact that I need my car in my new city) is that most airlines only allow one animal per passenger, so I'd have to have two other people fly with me just to get my whole flock there. Super pricey when it's a coast-to-coast trip.

Unfortunately Roo, my chronic stress bird, is having one of her illness episodes after her vet visit on Tuesday, so that makes me anxious about how she's going to travel. :( But she does tend to surprise me, and do better than I think she will with a lot of things, so hopefully that will be the case here.

I think it will be too but I swear this bird is going to take years off my life LOL

My vet says he's never had or heard of another patient like her...it'll be interesting to see if any of the west coast vets know what to make of her.

You have to ask Roo that question. She's looking very very good BTW.

Thanks :) She seems pretty much all better from her post-vet symptoms. It'll be interesting to see whether going to my friend's house sets her off again or if it's a limited thing. It would be great if it was just out of her system now.

A few pics from our first day/first stop in St. Louis:

Image

Packed car is packed. (Yes, that is a Captain Kirk action figure. It's a long story.)

Image

They did well in the hotel...as long as I didn't try to leave the room. Anytime I was out of sight, it was flock calling like crazy.

Image

Sunny really, really wanted my fried rice. I think he was like "but Mom! You always want me to eat rice!!" Either that or he just wanted the box, who knows.

Tomorrow we're on to South Dakota.

It's great that Miss Roo is doing OK with the trip. I hope she keeps it up!

It would take a heart of stone to deny rice to an adorable face like that.

Good luck.....
I was wondering while your travelling, do you cover 3 sides of the cages? I do, and my birds settle....
also, when they are in different surroundings I cover them when I leave the room....
I'm guessing you've tried this.... just a thought...
