I have had my two tiels for about 2-1/2 years. Their smell has never bothered me.

Last few weeks, though, when I am near the cage their smell seems much more intense and a little bit unpleasant.

They have been dropping a few large wing feathers recently. But, they don't seem to be molting other feathers. They seem healthy and active.

What I am doing:

I keep paper towels on the bottom of the cage, and I change them everyday.

I vacuum the room they are in every day.

I have started making sure to mist them every morning, and provide bath a couple of times a week.

Anyone have an idea about why they seem to be more odorous than usual? Also, any other steps I can take?

Is it possible that you've become more sensitive to smells? Or that there's some mold or something near the cage area and you're smelling that?

My brother will be here tomorrow. I will ask him whether her smells anything near the cage. He's not the best source, though. His sense of smell is not as acute as mine.

I actually tend to be very, very sensitive to odors. I really don't like shopping in malls, because of all the odors.

Silver does seem to be molting wing feathers. I notice some hanging and ready to come off. Also, he often needs to adjust his wing repeatedly. It's not always the same wing. I was wondering why, but maybe it is because he is molting.

Also, now that Silver is a big boy, he's not that into being on my hand. It's a little disappointing. But, maybe because he is molting.

My cats seem to be shedding a lot right now. There is hair everywhere! Or, maybe I have just become more observant? Hard to tell!
