Here's a fun fact: because the invasive Quaker population is so prolific in the US, they're actually illegal to have in certain states such as California (at least I think California's one of them... Can't remember).

Yes that is correct. Because quakers are the only hookbills to construct nests, they're able to survive in both north and south California climates. It's also illegal to own a ferret and a hedgehog in California as well.

There are a lot of wild parrots in San Francisco, but the cherry heads are the most famous because there was a book and a movie about them. Last I heard they were still there and the flock was getting bigger.

Some parrot species are called by more than one name. Monk parakeets and quakers are the same bird.

we stayed in Clearwater Beach FL 2009. we had flock of Quakers parrots that join us for dinner every night. you had to watch your plate because they would steal it empty. they also took my great nephew's pacifier from his stroller.

Yup, the ones we have are ringnecks. They are being watched as to wether they are causing a problem for native species... Although I believe by the time we (as humans) spot the problem, it'll be too late to actually help out the losing species without DRASTIC measures...

I heard there's also a big group of budgies, but have not found any footage of them. I do have a friend that used to live there in an apartment. She says she spotted them every day whilst staring out the window...

Awesome quakers. I saw quite a few in the surrounding trees where I was in Tenerife

We have Indian ringnecks here in the UK. My friend gets about 25 in his garden on an evening. He says they're very loud when they're together

I was visiting Amsterdam last year and I went to Vondelpark for the first time. The wild ringnecks and Alexandrines were awesome and it was great seeing them flock together. They are so fast in flight
