Does anyone have any info on ring necked parrots

There's a guy at the local bird club who breeds African ringnecks. He says they're actually the nominate species, but Indian ringnecks are a lot better known. There are several other closely related species, like the Alexandrine.

There are a lot of gorgeous color mutations in IRNs.

Not a problem!

I am not currently breeding Indian ringnecks unfortunately but intend to by the end of the year. I do know a fantastic breeder that I can recommend should you want genuine good quality hand raised babies. A lot of the adverts you see on Facebook, Gumtree, Preloved etc. claiming to be tame and such really aren't and you have to be so careful when buying them. A lot of adult females have their wings clipped and are sold as 6 month old male chicks that are just starting to talk. If you have a look around you'll see what I mean. Quite disgusting really

I am personally not an advocate of them being good companion parrots. A handful of birds do make the ideal pet but the vast majority do not. I find them quite skittish, standoffish and not very hands on. They seem to enjoy their own company or the company of other birds over our own. They can be good talkers but as always it's never guaranteed. They tend to 'bluff' a lot. They'll pin their eyes and lunge but they never seem to actually bite haha. They're certainly what I would describe as a flighty bird too, easily spooked. They have a very loud and shrill call too

I keep four Alexandrine parakeets and currently have one pair on eggs. I can honestly say that even though they appear to be the less desirable species (I'm guessing down to colour and less popularity on social media) they make amazing companion birds. They are much larger birds with a smaller voice and a down to earth personality. They are more hands on (though aren't keen on cuddling) and will spend all day with you if given the chance. A couple of mine speak well. They are forever curious and destructive but if given plenty to keep themselves occupied they won't be eating your walls. They are independent birds and can take or leave the attention. They can entertain themselves very well. They are smashing eaters and will take just about anything you can put in front of them. I find them easier to work with too. Even a bird that has not been hand raised can be a very good companion. All 4 of mine have been parent raised and I can hold all of them no problem at all. They are all fully flighted. Only problem is they require a much bigger cage to accommodate their tails!
