Once I was in Mexico on vacation. I went down to the beach (I was only about 7) and found a hermit crab. I loved that little crab, so I hunted for more. When I had found around 15, my mom aid it was time to go back to the hotel. Bringing the little crabs with me, I showed them to my father. He said we couldn't keep them and said if I didn't get rid of them he would. I didn't want to, and I just thought he'd go back to the beach and let them go. He walked over to our window, and dumped the crabs out the window! He's like, theyll be fine. That's what the shells are for right? I have a lot of stories from Mexico, but this is one of the best. The best one is probably when my dad got stung by a scorpion.

Eek! It sounds like your family doesn't understand that animals are living, breathing creatures that can be hurt or killed if they're abused or when something happens to them that isn't part of their natural lifestyle. Crabs have hard shells but they're NOT designed to be dumped out a window. If this hotel wasn't right on the beach, then even if they survived the fall they might not be able to find their way back to where they belong.

I don't know how much crabs experience in the way of emotion, but birds certainly have feelings. When you had to get rid of Kia it was as hard for her as it was for you.

I think about Kia all the time, and wonder if she in a tiny cage, never taken out of it, or even abused by the owner or a bigger bird........:'(

Your dad got stung by a scorpion? Well, it has to be one of the most colorful examples of Karma!

is it possible to contact the owner and ask for pictures and updates?

your mom probably feels like this idea did not help her feel better. maybe for like 5 minutes...

have you tried letting her know how you feel? Is there a way you can ask for her back? show her the thread you made about the windowsill so she will know that you DO care.

I don't know where the girl lives. All I know is that we met at Aldi's , said our goodbyes and she was gone. she knows I'm sorry about the window, but she said, "Just because your sorry, doesn't mean it will be magically fixed". ;(

Barabra, I would probably say your right, but I don't believe in chance, karma, or anything of the such.

Getting rid of a bird also won't help magically fix it, maybe getting rid of all will prevent it. But it won't help the situation.

Didn't the person contact you in order to meet? You should have her e-mail or phone number somewhere.

You can just ask how she is doing to give yourself a peace of mind.
