Here's a suggestion. I know that bowls work well for budgies, but a different arrangement would work better for cockatiels. You can just cover the floor with wood shavings, and the male will make a bowl-shaped hollow in the shavings for the eggs to rest in. After the babies hatch they back up to the side of the nestbox to poop, and they need to be able to get to the edge and back again safely. If they're in a bowl there's a risk that they might fall out and not be able to get back to the center, and if that happens they'll get chilled which can be deadly.
Thx for the tip! I'll be taking the bowl out then.
As for the ladder on the inside. I found loads of nestboxes with a higher enterance, because of that I didn't even think about the babies not being able to look out. The ladder was my sollution.
Some set-ups had a picture of how the birds would be able to climb out:
But this was my favourite nestbox:
This one was 22 EURO and I wanted 9 so... with the deal I've got now they are free. Only thing is I don't have a 'tray' to clean it out easier, hence the bowl Idea. But what you are saying makes sence. So I'll get rid of the bowl.
Thx a bunch!
