Short video, just to get the feel of things.

I tried editing in GoPro Studio, but man, I just can't get the hang of it!

Have a look if you want to though :bigsmile100:

That's an awesome nestbox setup! Looks like your tiels are going to breed soon.

The Big wooden nestbox is what I can get from my mothers friend. I've drawn the design on a piece of paper and asked him to cut the wood for me out of plywood. Then I shoot it all together with a nailgun. I should get 9 of them in total.

Here are 2 pictures (one so you can see the inside)

Thank you. I must say the cardboard is only for this year though. I'm hoping to have all the wooden nestboxes ready by next year.

I've been thinking about asking my mothers friend if he can keep making them. I might be able to sell some on the internet, but I can only do it if he lets me :bigsmile100: And mine aren't ready yet so...
I could send them out all ready or in a DIY Kit. Provided the buyer knows how to nail them together

I like the ladder inside - it looked like a long way from the door to the bottom and I wondered how the adult birds would manage it. But the ladder will make it easy for them.

It might be a challenge for the babies though. With my nestboxes there's a drop of only two or three inches from the door to the top of the bedding. As my chicks get close to fledging they spend several days looking out the door before they finally get the courage to leave. It might take a few extra days for your babies to develop the skill to make it up to the door.

Here's a suggestion. I know that bowls work well for budgies, but a different arrangement would work better for cockatiels. You can just cover the floor with wood shavings, and the male will make a bowl-shaped hollow in the shavings for the eggs to rest in. After the babies hatch they back up to the side of the nestbox to poop, and they need to be able to get to the edge and back again safely. If they're in a bowl there's a risk that they might fall out and not be able to get back to the center, and if that happens they'll get chilled which can be deadly.

Thx for the tip! I'll be taking the bowl out then.

As for the ladder on the inside. I found loads of nestboxes with a higher enterance, because of that I didn't even think about the babies not being able to look out. The ladder was my sollution.

Some set-ups had a picture of how the birds would be able to climb out:

But this was my favourite nestbox:

This one was 22 EURO and I wanted 9 so... with the deal I've got now they are free. Only thing is I don't have a 'tray' to clean it out easier, hence the bowl Idea. But what you are saying makes sence. So I'll get rid of the bowl.

Thx a bunch!

Nests come in all kinds of configurations in the wild and the babies eventually figure out how to leave, so I'm sure yours will do it too. It might just take them a little longer than babies in a nest with an easy exit. Four to five weeks is often cited as the fledging age for cockatiels, but mine tend to do it at 3 1/2 to 4 weeks. The ease of getting out of the nestbox probably plays a role in that, and mine would probably be doing it at four to five weeks if it was more complicated.
