It looks like he is trying to be the better man, but I know I couldn't be. Animal abuse should not be taken lightly and should be handled with a firm hand and serious punishment. Has anything else been released on why those teenagers did what they did?

That's the only information I've seen - someone on another board posted the link so I passed it on. I'm intentionally not looking for too much info on it, since I don't want to hear all the details. I've already heard enough to haunt me for years. I can deal with blood and gore in a medical context, but cruelty like this is unnerving. I'm still disturbed by atrocities that I heard about during the Vietnam war, 40+ years ago.

I think it's very likely that these boys were abused themselves. Abuse is a vicious circle, with abused kids growing up to be the abusers. Or maybe they grew up in a very dysfunctional situation (like an alcoholic parent) or there's something wrong in their mental/emotional wiring (they're sociopaths). People who were brought up well and have normal emotional functioning don't do things like this. There's something seriously wrong with these guys.

Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you. But I agree. It always starts somewhere.

It's being talked about on other boards too so it's pretty hard to avoid. I already know that we live in a nasty cruel world but I prefer not to know too many of the details in situations where there's really nothing we can do about it.

A horrible story. I also don't want to hear the details but my heart goes out to the family who owned poor Ozzi.
If there is a positive to the story it is the amount of people who have come forward all over the world to mourn and support the family who lost the bird. Yes, there are a lot of violent dysfunctional people in our world but I really believe there are more kind and loving people. We just don't hear about them as much.

The problem with sociopaths is that even though they are incurable, they cannot be locked away forever. This is a serious problem because a person who lacks empathy is not fit for social life but by law cannot be kept locked forever just because of that. It's like watching a car knowing that it's surely gonna crash soon and not being able to stop it... I am not following the case because these cases fill me with a sense of complete impotence, it upsets me too much
