This topic is not related to birds, well maybe a little bit, because it has to do with me not being able to sit with my birds as I used to.
But you are inventive ladies and gentlemen and I hope you can help me to find a solution.

My laptop screen died a few days ago. The keyboard lost all its keys courtesy of Bubu long ago, so basically now I have a perfectly working laptop that I can't communicate with.

Instead of going for keyboard and screen replacements, which would cost about £150, I have bought a dirty cheap monitor and will use that plus a usb keyboard.

I need to find an easy way to move all this stuff from one room to another.
I would set all up in the bird room, but then I wouldn't be able to leave the tiels free ranging all day even when I'm not there: they would dismantle the whole thing as soon as I turn my head.

I am not fussy about prettiness; but I need something I can fix the monitor on and trolley in and out the bird room.
I will probably need to build it myself or adapt some existent piece of furniture I can buy for cheap.

I have seen some pretty cool stuff online, like the Ergotron trolleys, they look like they belong in a hospital but they are very functional. I need something like that, or like a normal computer desk but small and with castors that REALLY work well. Castors in computer desks usually suck.

Do you own such a piece of equipment and can tell me how you built it? Or maybe you can think of something?
I miss my birds! I am now stuck in the other room for most of the day because I use the computer pretty much all the time.

Would something like this work? http://www.harborfreight.com/movers-dolly-93888.html

Test out the quality before you buy. I happen to know that this particular one doesn't roll very well, but you may be able to find a better quality one at a local hardware store. If you don't like the empty space in the middle you could put a piece of plywood on top of it.

You could probably make your own without too much trouble and put better casters on it.

I made one of those for a houseplant that got too big for the spot it was in. The only thing that cost me was the rolling wheels. The rest I used scrap wood to make.

Something like that is good. My mind draws a blank when it comes to think of a way to fix the monitor on it, at a decent height.

I have a coffee table I got from IKEA, rolls like a dream and very quiet

http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90208449/

but I have no idea about the monitor. Maybe I can screw a vertical panel on a side and mount the monitor to it, I don't know if it would capsize

I want the whole thing to be all together, because if I have to load-unload every time it becomes a chore, plus if the monitor is trolleyed without being fixed, be assured I will find a way to knock it down and break it

I'm not that good at solving these types of problems, but I admire the fact that you try different ways to solve the problem instead of just giving up immediately and buying a new laptop like everybody else these days. Stubborn people rule!

It's probably easiest to buy a small, cheap computer table and put it on wheels. Or if you're super handy you could build your own table and put it on wheels.

I ended up buying this for a fiver from eBay, found it 3 hours before the end of the auction so I was lucky, really

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Computer-Desk-/221347201445?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&nma=true&si=4ALliXz1h%252BSXVcBqAmW1VxbT0cw%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

The seller couldn't even be bothered to post the picture right so I am not surprised I was the only bidder

23" wide means that I can definitely trolley it in and out, I will need to buy the wheels for it but that's ok, at least I will be able to choose good ones.

It's quite ugly lol but anything that saves me £££ is very pretty to me :D

I already know that the birds will hate the thing moving around, they are such routine people! You move a perch, they will have to investigate for a long time before daring to hop on it
