I wouldn't mind having a galah, Bourke's parrot or rosella. Those would be my dream birds. If I only made more money and had the means to have other birds aside from tiels.

Bourkes are small and peaceful, and they're not super expensive. A galah or rosella is a more difficult proposition, but bourkes are doable!

I'm so new to birds (first time owner) and really didn't do a lot of research when I was ready to acquire them. I've always wanted tiels so that's what I got for myself.

I went to a Pet Supplies Plus last evening with Gizmo and we saw something called a canary winged parakeet. They're very cute and sweet but I've never heard or read much about them other than they're wonderful companion birds and will give you as much affection and attention as you give them so if you’re looking for a bird to do everything with you, then you’ve found the one.

I'd love to have a bird like the canary winged parakeet, but they cost a small fortune. Pet Supplies Plus was selling them for $230 and I've seen them go for as much as $375 online. That's a lot of money for a bird. Tiels are expensive enough.

Actually, that's relativity cheap for a canary winged parakeet. We normally don't get them in California, and when we do at The Bird Shop, they are about $350.

My BBC would be $500, but I am thinking about adopting one, but there are not any in my area right now and I want a hen. In the meantime, my next birds will probably be a breeding pair of budgies or another lovebird. A cockatiel is a must have at all times for me. These won't be until the near future. 4 is my limit now.

It is not too expensive. My super-maximum-dream bird, the black palm cockatoo, costs around 15K. I don't think I have ever seen another creature as beautiful and surreal as him.

$230 is still overbudget for me.

Normally parakeets aren't that expensive. I wonder what makes the canary winged one a more pricy bird.

Honestly, I'd never spend more than $100 for a bird, which is why I like tiels. They're not cheap, but they're not terribly expensive either unless you buy those super large ones from a pet store. The Petcos and Pet Supplies Plus stores usually sell those super large ones for around $130 a bird though I've also seen them as much as $150, $160 and $190 a bird at Petlands and other pet stores. IMHO, that's just way too much money for a tiel when I can go to a breeder and pay them a lot less money depending on the mutation of the bird. Believe me, there's a definite difference in price between pet store normal grays and breeder ones.
