I have never been on a horse, apart from the ponies at the park when I was a little girl.
It's one of my biggest regrets, maybe it can go on my bucket list :)

There are probably stables in your area where you can rent a horse and ride it for an hour or so under the supervision of the stable employees. Tell them you want a horse that's slow and placid not a frisky one.

I went horseback riding once. It was really fun.

My mom used to show horses and judge horses, and my aunt used to breed them. I used to ride horses all the time. Problem was I was no good at it...

Barbara, look for trail rides in your area. I don't know where you live, but here in the Midwest there's a few. A trail horse is about the calmest horse you can find, and you don't even need to worry about losing control because trail horses are trained to follow the horse in front of them. Plus they use western saddles, which I find a bit easier to stay in and more comfy than english saddles.

This is a horse region, probably due to fox hunting: the Midlands were fox hunting territory.
I guess it would be relatively easy to find a place where they have suitable horses for a fat old lady, but I am a bit scared: if I fall, I will break three or four bones including my hip lol
I wish these horses had a net to catch you if you fall :D

Tell them you want a horse that's not too tall and you won't have as far to fall lol.

I once rode a camel. That puts you WAY up higher than a horse does and it sways like mad.

This is the view from camelback:

A trail ride would be perfect then. You want a nice big old warmblood who's bomb-proof, and that describe a lot of trail horses. Pheasants can break in front of them and they don't even bat an eye.

I've only fallen off a horse once, when I didn't realize something was wrong with the saddle and the cinch slipped and the saddle fell off. Didn't even bruise.

We should be going to Cornwall next week (if I find someone who will feed the flock), I will definitely check what they have there.
There is one guy who organises rides on Clydesdale horses... now falling from THAT would reduce me in a heap of dust but they are magnificent!
