Some of you may know we plan to move to Coeur D'Alene, Idaho in a year or two. Well, I was promised I would get a bird room when we move into our new house. Honestly, I would prefer a horse, but I know that's not going to happen, so a good bird room will do. Since there will be a bird room, daddy has told me I could exceed my "4 Birds Only" rule and get a fifth bird. I think I'll try something bigger, but not too big. I found a great breeder in Spokane, Washington. There was a breeder in Blackfoot, Idaho, but that is 7 hours away from Coeur D'Alene. Spokane is just a measly 36 minutes away! And they have 4 of my favorite birds. Oooh, now what should I pick?

Blue Headed pionus
Quakers
Plumhead parakeets

Oh my, what will be my future selection? Only time will tell I suppose.

That's is so exciting! I think you already said this but, can you also get a Princess Of Wales? They get along with cockatiel great and they are gorgeous. Another good thing about moving your birds in a bird room is that you can can a louder bird because the noise won't echo off the walls.

When we move. Probably not for a month or so til we settle in.

But most likely we won't move for another 2 to 3 years.

I have looked them up. They are beautiful. Is a Blue Crown Conure still not an option? Barbara has a very loud bird in her bird room. Maybe the volume won't be as loud since they will be in a room that isn't going to echo off the walls of your current house.

Yes, it is, but I'm scared it will learn a noise I won't learn to tolerate. See, as some of you know, I am sadly autistic, and I have bad reactions to certain sounds, reactions I cannot control. Luckily, the only sound that does that to me is a dog lapping at water. It sends me into an uncontrollable anger and I have to leave. Therefore, when I am over at mama's house, she has a dog, I have to pick up the indoor water in the house so I can't hear it. If the dog wants water, he must go outside so I can't hear it. As long as I can't hear it, it's okay.

And BCC conures are good mimics and very noisy, so I don't know if I want to take that risk. I would hate to re-home my favorite bird because I could not take a noise it makes.

Some of the other birds I have selected are not the noisiest and not that good at mimicking sounds. The quaker could probably talk, but they mostly just make grumbling sounds and don't pick up sounds like a BCC can. That's why they're on my list.

IMO the very best way to choose a bird is to visit the ones you're interested in and take the bird with the most engaging personality. Personality means a lot more than looks, and a scruffy bird who's fun to play with will be a better companion than a gorgeous bird who isn't interested in you.

This is really great news! I wouldn't be surprised if the number of birds allowed will grow with time.

I had some experience with quakers in a mixed flock. Maybe it's because they were a couple, but they were convinced that they ruled the place. While a bigger bird might ignore them, I am worried that they could be bullying the smaller birds.

If you had to let them out at different times it would defy the very idea of bird room, but hey you have loads of time to decide what will fit the best. And I agree with Tielfan, it's all about personality and chemistry between you and the new bird... one loving scruffy bird will steal your heart in one second flat; especially knowing you a bit, I am sure you will go for good chemistry instead of good looks
