One of my new arrivals, Leslie, had nails so long that she couldn't walk on fabrics without stumbling and getting stuck.
So today I towelled her and with Paul's assistance I clipped her claws.
It has to be said that we both are wimps and it took a while between trying to stop her wriggling and keeping the feet still lol

Anyway all went well, she now walks normally and doesn't seem shocked by the process... She is now forever trying to get scritches and is much, much more friendly!

I give up trying to understand tiels. Last time I tried to do Bubu he bit me and hated me for days!

I don't understand them either. The only time Beaker will accept scritches is when he is also toweled getting his nails clipped.

Strange creatures.

It's an odd phenomenon all right. A lot of my less-tame birds are friendliest right after I've finished clipping my nails. My best guess is that they were assuming something terrible was going to happen while they were restrained, and when it turned out to be not that bad they were relieved and happy.

Hahaha yes that can be true! Sometimes I grab someone who has a scruffy head and take care of the pin feathers.... After i release them back they all look surprised and relieved, as if they were expecting to be slaughtered lol.

I cant clip birds nails anymore,
so was a visit to the avian vet for
Drummer, he cried like a baby,
took him at least a week to get over it
all! But the P'let didn't murmur, just
looked at the vet with big eyes!
Yep I cost a fortune! but well worth it

Jan I usually prefer the vet and when I have someone sick I stick someone needing a pedicure in the same cage so I kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. I am always afraid that I will cut off too much!
But this was an emergency, the poor girl did get stuck to everything! Maybe with time I will build up on confidence.
I have always ready a big jar of cornflower :D

Yes jar of cornflower is a must... even the vet has a stick of something by his side when he trims them.... so it isn't an easy job...
Avian vet for me always now....

Wow..an inspiration. Peach needs her nails done and I'm scared to do them but I don't want to take her to her vet or she'll hate me even more than she does now for the torture she had to go through last summer. Can you describe in detail how to do it? I do my dogs and cat already

Stephanie, You can use regular flour if you'd like. This is the perfect link for you to learn how to clip nails. Carolyn wrote it. http://www.littlefeatheredbuddies.com/i ... pping.html
