There is no way to determine if somebody who writes is a male or female - only from the context. Or if somebody has his/her human name in the signature. Or if their nickname obviously speaks for itself. This is a bit confusing :)
Are there any tips for determining opponent's gender?
PArrotWhisperer, are you a boy or a girl? (you see, I feel stupid asking). Of course, it doesn't matter after all. Are there any other languages that do it to people (I mean leaving you with no clue unless somebody mentions "my husband") ?

Even "my husband" doesn't tell you anything any more lol.

If you look at the left side of one of ParrotWhisperer's posts, it says the name is Brandon. I've never heard of a girl named Brandon so I'm guessing that he's a boy lol.

Brandon is definitely male. And if you didn't know me, I could have said "my girlfriend says..." but that still doesn't give you a confirmed answer of what I am. People could always be gay/lesbian.

The best way to see is under their profile picture, there is an option for a name. If they don't have their name listed or any real clues to what sex they might be, they are a mystery.

it was about English in general, not about Brandon. I just mentioned him as example. I didn't pay attention to his member's info before.

Chipper, I know what you mean and join in the confusion :)
It's quite frustrating sometimes.

Italian language is very specific on gender, to the point where we don't even have the neutral gender "it" and everything is either male or female (articles, nouns, adjectives), so if I say even the simplest phrase like "I am tired" or "I am the best cook in the world", I will give away my gender.
The biggest problem with English is that adjectives and articles have no gender so the chance to easily identify the sex of a person is very slim.

that's exactly what I am talking about Barbara.
One time I was communicating with somebody from Craigslist, and I was about to meet that person to buy something. I knew so heck a lot about that person, what car he/she drives, What color clothes is dressed in. I just didn't know if I was supposed to meet a guy or a girl. Sure, that's not a big deal LOL but compared to other languages it leaves me personally confused.

Chipper, what is your first language?

Barbara, are you in and/or from Italy? If so, man, I am really going to have to make my brain do some gymnastics to imagine you with something different from a British accent.

Russian. Hopefully people won't be spooked by this :) We are not as bad as your media pictures us :)
I really like the way you write, Cloudy. Ever thought becoming an author? I learn a lot of new words reading you.

Russian! I was not expecting that! I know only two Russian words, both curse words that I learned from YouTube videos... you know the ones I'm talking about, the ones that are yelled a lot during/after crazy car crashes or someone throwing themselves on a car hood to pretend they were hit by the car. I also recently watched 3 hours straight of a Russian game show where everyone had to keep their hands on a car for 3 days straight. The hour long videos were not translated, no subtitles. All Russian. I can't even explain what I found so fascinating about the show that I could watch 3 entire hours of it without understanding a single thing (the 2 Russian words I know were bleeped out!) but there you have it.

Anyways, thanks for the compliment about my writing. I pretty much just type stuff out exactly as I'd say it in real life.
