There is a vendor at the market who sells meats and eggs. Once I had a conversation with him, and he was surprised that there must be an expiration date on eggs sold in stores.
- But eggs are insulated! They stay fresh! he exclaimed.
I didn't argue much with him, but I was also surprised that egg seller thought eggs don't expire. I learned as a child how to tell a bad egg from the fresh one (bad eggs float in water, while fresh eggs sink)
During market season I try to buy eggs from somebody else (keeping in mind what he said)
but in the winter, he is the only egg seller. A week ago I thought I would give him another try... a week later, all the eggs stand up in water (means they are not rotten but still rather old) and some cracked while I boiled them
I guess I won't buy from him again even in winter

but he sells eggs for many years :)
at first, when their eggs were cracking while being boiled I thought that they accidentally had got frozen in my fridge and this caused cracking while cooking. But then I found that this could be an indication that eggs are old (and this is what I seriously suspect especially after him talking about no expiration for eggs) !
I decided I would rather buy "awful" store eggs in winter
