Tonight I decided to watch The Shining, mainly because we were talking about it on the group recently. It had been years since I saw it so I didn't remember much about it. There's a lot to criticize - the early part of the movie is slow and tedious, the background music is overblown, and there's a lot of bad acting and general weirdness. There's a lot of ambiguity too because that's how Kubrick liked to make movies - the ending will leave you saying "Huh? What?".

But it's a great movie all the same, because nobody does demented better than Jack Nicholson and watching him do his thing makes up for everything. I enjoyed watching Shelley Duvall too. Her character is basically a joke who does nothing but whimper, cringe and overact, but she's so goofy looking that it's fun to watch her.

What has everybody else been watching?

Jack Nicholson is super creepy! A lot of the movie looks pretty hokey nowadays but was scarier back in 1980. The twin ghost girls have turned into a cliche and pop up in a lot of horror-movie spoofs, so when I see them now my inclination is to laugh not to be freaked out.

I was kind of disappointed in the new Star Wars. The action and special effects were good enough, but the plot mostly seemed like a repeat of things that happened in the other movies. There wasn't a lot of originality in the story line.

I just found a hilarious gif where somebody replaced Jack Nicholson with Willy Wonka in the "chopping down the door" scene. They did a really good job of it too. Willy Wonka is from a kid's movie but I always thought he was pretty creepy too.

Hmm, what movie have I recently seen... you guys would probably criticize my movie selections. They're all over the board.

The only movie I actually remember sitting down and watching recently was Footloose (2011 version). Good movie.

I watched titanic! Still my all-time favorite movie!

I love the part when Jack and Rose are in the cold and they say "Jack! Jack! Rose! Rose!"

LAst movie I saw was the Star Wars movie.

I hoped to see the hateful eight, but missed it ...
Deadpool is on my list of things to watch.
