Finally made the transfer over :applaud:

Been so busy and hair on ends with nail biting every day as I wait for my license score report...it's already been 3 weeks since I've written it and I still haven't recieved my score! :bang: If I pass it then I start working on August.

I need to take meeko to the vet because she's started wheezing. I've noticed it for a while now but ignored it because she only does it when a human gets too close into her comfort zone and as soon as we back out she stops...so I figured it was anxiety since she's pretty old now (she's 6 years old!). But recently the wheezing has continued even with no humans close to her. I am taking her to the vet on monday or tuesday (earliest appointment I could make). She's eating well, grooming, flying/playing as normal, just the weird wheezing she does at times.

Meeko is a budgie, yes? Check the label on everything you're feeding her to see if she's getting iodine in her diet. If she isn't, then adding a little might solve the problem.

A long time ago I had a budgie that started wheezing with exertion. The problem gradually got worse and she died at age 8. There was no internet then and not much was known about birds.

Then about ten years ago another budgie started wheezing. I happened to read in a book that birds can get a goiter just like humans but it manifests differently. Instead of bulging outward it bulges inward and presses on the windpipe. They recommended giving birds a little iodized salt. I did this, and the problem went away and never came back.

If she's eating pellets then she's probably getting iodine already. With basic seed mixes the odds are a lot less, although some of the fancier gourmet mixes might have it.

Good luck, I hope the problem is cleared up soon no matter what the cause is!
