I think with hormonal birds, there might be "good seasons" and "bad seasons". I'd make an example by comparing it to a human thing, but I don't know if it's ok to talk about that here.
Lucy surprisingly wasn't that bad when her hormones started kicking in and she laid eggs. I mean aside from having temper tantrums in the corner and being a little cranky when I'd give attention to Alex instead of herself (during the time, she would quite literally fight Alex when it was her turn for scritches). I would probably expect her to get a little more cranky during future hormone seasons. They're kinda like this with molting too. Sometimes they're a little extra bratty and sometimes their behavior doesn't change much.
So perhaps this time, he's just having a pretty bad hormone season.
