Have a problem.....
Obi in the last week has attracted me,
for no reason at all.... he just went for me
full on attack, any piece of flesh he could get at....
It's like nothing I've ever experienced with a bird before....
He aimed for my eyes neck, I managed to grab a towel
to protect myself.....
The same thing has happened this morning.....
He's trying to attack from inside his cage....
The only thing different, I moved his cage about 6 feet from
where it is normally... He's back in the original place now...
It's as if he suddenly flips out.....
Any one had this happen to them?
Seems ok in himself..... eats drinks.... talks.... just so
nasty every now and then.....any advise well-come thanks

He sounds hormonal. Does he have any dark places that he likes to hide in?

Yes, it sounds like he's hormonal. A lot of hormonal birds see the cage as their nest and defend it vigorously. You can cheer him up when you put your hand in the cage by going in with a piece of millet spray so he can attack that instead of your hand, until he forgets that he's angry and starts munching peacefully. Or you can use a stick to get him to perch and take him out before you put your hand in. Or you can just wear a glove lol. It will take a while for him to get over it naturally, but there are simple hormone control techniques that can make him get over it in about a week: http://www.littlefeatheredbuddies.com/i ... mones.html

affected by being hormonal.....

cage at all today.....
Thanks.....

I think with hormonal birds, there might be "good seasons" and "bad seasons". I'd make an example by comparing it to a human thing, but I don't know if it's ok to talk about that here. :?

Lucy surprisingly wasn't that bad when her hormones started kicking in and she laid eggs. I mean aside from having temper tantrums in the corner and being a little cranky when I'd give attention to Alex instead of herself (during the time, she would quite literally fight Alex when it was her turn for scritches). I would probably expect her to get a little more cranky during future hormone seasons. They're kinda like this with molting too. Sometimes they're a little extra bratty and sometimes their behavior doesn't change much.

So perhaps this time, he's just having a pretty bad hormone season.

Birds do have a seasonal rhythm to their hormone cycle, which can be totally thrown off by living indoors where it's hard to tell what season it is. I recently added a section to the hormone control article with scientific info about breeding triggers: http://www.littlefeatheredbuddies.com/i ... .html#geek

Oh same! I have so many stories.

Just kidding. I'm the only male, so I'm kinda left out.
