Sometimes when I click the HC button this message appears:

Image

It says Invalid but actually, when I go back to check, the Happy Chirp has been registered.
Any idea why this happens?
It just happens to me? If it's only happening to me then it could be that my mouse double clicks on it, it does that sometimes.

I don't have enough experience with it yet to know whether it's happening to anyone else or what might be causing it. I'll be on the lookout for problems anyway, and if anyone else has trouble with it please post it here in this thread. At least the chirps are being recorded and that's what matters.

I know of another forum where everybody gets an error message when they click the Thanks button but the thanks are recorded anyway. That board uses a different computer program (they have vbulletin, I have phpbb) so it probably isn't the exact same problem. But it seems like there can be a lot of glitches in this sort of thing. As you know, there's another board that replaced their thanks button with a karma system not too long ago, but the karma is only visible to the recipient. Not having it available for public view defeats the whole purpose of a karma system, and I think that must be a programming quirk.

I am in a forum where the karma system (kinda) works, but it's based on public comments and points that appear below the post.
It's a type of forum where there's need of a LOT of supervision and I guess the public karma system is one way to have people participate to the moderation.
We definitely don't need that, actually I can't imagine any pet forum needing that kind of control.
Plus, as you say, making it private makes the whole thing a bit pointless.

TalkBudgies has a public karma system, you can see the ratings on any thread, for example http://talkbudgies.com/showthread.php?t=122401 So I don't know why the one on TC is so dysfunctional. Not that it matters anyway, and I don't want a karma system here. I'm pleased with the happy chirps system!

I am glad to report that the problem I had with the invalid error message was entirely due to my mouse clicking twice of its own volition.
I am now using a different mouse and the error has never happened again.
Sorry about it

New problem. Whenever I click on my numbers to see where my happy chirps came from, it tells me I am not authorized to view it. Is that new?

It says that to me as well. You can see your happy chirps list by going to your user profile and clicking that.

I haven't changed anything so it should be the same as before. I can view the Happy Chirps list and so can Vlad the Enforcer, but it's possible the system is giving us special privileges because of our rank. Hopefully it was just a temporary glitch - try it again and see if it's working now. If it isn't I'll have to go on a problem-solving mission.
