They don't work with me!!! I just tried again.
WHY???? Spooky! Particularly with someone who has a head full of these forbidden things!

May it depends on rank? I am just an "egg". Maybe higher ranks have higher posting privileges?

AH!!! Have you tried the singular?
It's the singular that is censored.

curls curly curler -> OK

Censoring is silly anyway, as there are other ways to write those words.
For example
curӏ
(the last letter is not really an l)

I know another board that actually set up a censoring system so people couldn't use certain words. But the way they set it up at first, it would censor that combination of letters anywhere in a word. For example one of the forbidden words was "ass", and if you tried to write "grass" it would appear as gr***. They eventually got it fixed so it wouldn't censor parts of words, but until they got it straightened out we had to write something like g-r-a-s-s, with dashes in it, if we wanted people to be able to read the word instead of guessing what it said.

I remember a board where someone wanted to mention the poet Emily Dickinson but her post mentioned Emily "Thingie"inson (automatically changed).
Ridiculous how censorship sometimes works...

And especially on a bird forum, where there's a lot of talk about cocks and hens. :roffle:

Yeah, I tried the singular one. Odd that all the other forms work.

I remember being in a forum with that kind of censorship as well (the one Carolyn is talking about). We had to spell words like this to get around it:
Gr@pe
C.ocker Spaniel
Gr@ss

There were multiple times where I had to spell cockatiel incorrectly on purpose. It would show up like "#@%!?", no matter how long the word.

I wonder if there's a way to turn off the censorship. I mod on another phBB forum, and we do not have this kind of problem whatsoever, for some reason.

There's a way to fix the problem when it's censoring parts of ordinary words. I helped the other forum that I was on fix it by looking up the solution. But the problem that's happening on this group is on the hosting end not in the way I've got it set up. There's no way to predict which words are going to cause problems, but theoretically I can go in and override it once I know about a specific problem word. But the instructions on how to fix it are aimed at professional programmers and therefore extremely unhelpful for me. I'm afraid of causing more problems than I solve and/or spending hours and hours on it when it's a minor, infrequent problem.

I once got censored on yet another group for talking about shiitake mushrooms. And yes I did spell it with two i's not just one. Yet that same group would let you write "sh!t" without any problems.

Oh, don't worry. Those who programmed the censoring don't seem to be experts either. :bigsmile100:
It would be helpful to have a list of censored words, but I tried to find one for phpBB boards and could not find a default list for all boards.
