Hello there!
I got a pet budgie about a month ago. The shop said he was quite young but did know exactly how old. (yes very helpful lol)
I am in the same room as little Sergio pretty much all day but I am curious about how he is doing.

What I really want to know if he is desperate for another bird friend.
I videod him while playing the sound of other budgies. I'm not sure if he's being territorial or wants to be with the other birds.

He chips and makes noises to himself but sings and makes all sorts of noises when music is played (He seems to like 70's disco).

Can anyone watch this video of him and tell me if I need to get him a friend asap?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liTiqjtmnu0

Many thanks :)

If he's with you most of the time and is getting a good amount of attention he already has enough companionship. If you want to get another bird for yourself that's fine, and he may enjoy having a bigger flock. But don't get another bird if the only reason is that you think he needs it. Putting two birds together doesn't always work out as well as we hoped, and there's a chance that they might not get along well together.

I wonder about that sometimes with my one 'tiel. She is with me most of the day though and she really does seem to be fine. Maybe you could provide your budgie with a few more toys. I spoil my 'tiel so she has lots of toys and I rotate them in her cage so they always seem new to her.

Honestly, that is pretty persistent flock calling. He may benefit from a friend. I notice some birds do better with other birds around. Tell me, is he very bonded to you?

The bird is still fairly new (in the house for a month) so it may not have fully settled in yet.

I played your video, and my budgie kept chirping back to yours. He says your budgie sounds lovely.

It might be a good idea to hold off on getting him a friend until he has been fully tame and bonded to you for a significant time.

When I had two budgies, I ended up wishing I had waited to get the second, because the first one regressed on taming, and then they were both hard to tame. Just my experience, for what it's worth.

Very true. Budgies seem notorious for that. When I got Poppy, Beck took a few steps back. However, once Poppy became accustomed to us, he sponged off of what Beck knew and he became slightly more friendlier. Of course he was handfed, but not handled, so he wasn't as uncomfortable as Beck, who came from PetSmart.

Thanks everyone.

I ended up getting another little friend. I guess I will just have to do the extra work to train them lol
