The noise is less important than the light is, for hormone control at least. They do need for it to be quiet in order to sleep. But for hormone control, what you really need is for the light to not be hitting their eyeballs. The amount of perceived daylight has an effect on their nervous system that's not related to the amount of actual sleep that they get. I think maybe the pineal gland is involved but I won't swear to it.

It would be probably possible if we had a backroom :)
What kind of backrooms do you have? I only have 2 bedrooms upstairs, and lots of space downstairs.
Do you roll cages there?

I was thinking about the basement you said you used to put the birds in. For the budgies, I just pick up the cage and carry it to the back room and for Coyote, I just pick him up and put him in a small cage I setup for him in my bedroom and then cover that up with a blanket.

Unfortunately, because of increased night hours parents stopped feeding the babies. Babies don't want to eat from me so we are really screwed.

thanks, we are surviving here, not very well though.
I woke them up a little earlier today. It was 11+ hours recently.

That must be rough, trying to balance finishing raising the babies and trying to get them enough hours of dark to calm down the hormones. Don't stop trying to figure out a solution to increasing the number of dark hours per day though, because hopefully the babies will be grown soon and mom needs some help to stop laying eggs (and hopefully not another clutch of babies if she finds a nest of some sort!)

Since mom isn't feeding the babies at all right now, maybe you can start just increasing her dark hours and worry about the others once the babies are weaned?

A problem is that father feels mother's mood. SHe has stopped laying eggs for now. She is really lazy and careless because of this. When she wanted to mate, this was driving dad's hormones enough for feeding the babies.

Yeah, it sounds like you have yourself in quite a complicated situation. Sorry, no words of wisdom, just sympathy and encouragement to keep doing whatever you need to to keep your birds healthy and egg/chick free. :)

My flock goes to sleep at 9pm and see the light again at 11am, like Dianne's
I bought a heavy duty tarp, very big so I could fold it in two, put three hooks outside the window and three hooks on one side of the tarp; when it's time for bed I put the tarp up and will pull it down in the morning.
This way I don't need to cover every individual cage and they all can see the little night light (to avoid night frights).
If I need to do something I will adjust their bed time hour, as you all said we all have other life commitments and I don't think there is anything wrong in moving night time from time to time
