We've been through a bit of drama with my birds over the last 3-4 months.

To sum up the soap opera: Budgie Piper was in love with Cockatiel Emma, and it was mutual. Emma started laying eggs.

Even though I didn't want to separate Piper and Emma, I felt it was necessary.

To console Piper, I got budgie Winter, back around New Year's.

Then, the new budgie cage seemed too small, so I expanded it to create a second level.

In the end, everything seems really good. The cockatiels are getting along; the budgies have become good companions to each other. They play with their toys. sometimes together, chirp and sing, an are entertaining to watch.

It's nice when you do something and it works out well for everyone.

I'm so glad that it all has worked out well. You need a new signature picture!

Do you keep tiels and budgies in the same room?
Yes, it's rewarding when things work out.

Are you still keeping them separate for out of cage time to keep Piper from wooing Emma? I'm hoping he'll fall for Winter and then you can let them all mingle again and he can have an appropriate partner to bond with.

Snowy was the second bird I got. I got him about two weeks after I got Piper.

Last spring the birds were being very noisy. Also, Piper had lost interest in Snowy and was pursuing Emma. I was keeping them all in the same flight cage and it wasn't working out that well.

A neighbor who is also a bird lover wanted Snowy. She had had a cockatiel that died, so she had a nice cage. At the time, it seemed like the right thing. She went to Petco to get another budgie to keep Snowy company. So, Snowy is doing fine.

Winter is a pure white albino. Snowy is pied with a blue stomach and, I thought, looked as though he had snow on his back.

The two cages are next to each other. The budgies don't get out of cage time right now, but they have a double height Vision cage and seem to be happy enough for now.

I do need to update my signature.

It's interesting that they both had wintery names.
