what should be the outdoor temperature for them to enjoy the weather? I took them out in the morning today after a lot of cooler cloudy days that we had, and it's above 60 and sunny, but below 70 at this time of the day. Feels warm in the sun. Not too cold for them?
The reason why I don't want to wait until later time (it should get up to 80F today) is that they are active in the morning but can be taking nap later, plus if I let them all out of cages after the night, I won't be able to manage Cuddles and Trillie, and they are the main persons who need some sunlight. I kept this two caged until almost 10am, and then rolled the cage out to the porch. All the kids eventually joined them there.

These temperatures are fine for them -they're wearing down jackets after all! If they get used to cooler temperatures gradually, they'll eventually be able to take temperatures in the 40s.

thanks Carolyn. Some birds start climbing the hardware cloth, is it really essential to rub metal with vinegar? I haven't done it yet. would any vinegar work? DO i need to wash off the vinegar after it or leave it?

Hardware cloth is zinc plated. It's best to wash the hardware cloth with vinegar to get rid of any excess zinc residue, because too much zinc is toxic. Rinse it with plain water afterward so the acid in the vinegar doesn't continue to corrode the wire.

If you don't wash it, the weather will get rid of the excess zinc residue in a few weeks. But until that happens, your birds could be at risk. Zinc is an essential nutrient in small quantities but too much of it is bad.

I found some branches that look good. Should I wash them with soap before I place them for the birds to perch? Plan to install them on the porch. Have no idea what tree they are from... can it be an issue?

Some trees are toxic so it's important to identify what it is before you use it. I usually wash branches with a bleach and water solution rather than soap. Rinse it off good and let it dry, and let the odor dissipate.

If you can take a branch to a nursery or something, they could probably tell you.

walking to a nursery with the broken tree branch would be probably as crazy as the person from TC who was wrapping sheets over her head in a thrift store trying to see how much light sheets allowed :)

I am just not native to this area. I will try to identify it.

That IS the best way to find out how much light goes through the sheet lol. It all depends on how badly you want to know. :roffle:
