My boy Burt died last night (appropriate thread will follow). Maybe his picture should be taken off the competition? Not sure about the rules about this.

@Melissa: A BCC is an abbreviation for a blue crown conure.

@ Barbara: This was so sudden. Im so sorry you lost him. Im thinking it should be fine to let the entry of him stay. I put up a few entries of Bio (cockatiel that flew away) a while ago and there wasn't a problem.

BCC = blue crowned conure

With clicker training, you first teach the bird that the click (or other sound) means that they're about to get a treat. Then you make the sound when they do something you want to encourage to help mark the moment that they earned the treat. It might take a little while for them to figure out exactly what they did to earn the reward but it's pretty effective if you do it right. I have more information on it here: http://www.littlefeatheredbuddies.com/i ... icker.html

The insane look on Azazel's face is totally adorable.

Will they realize that they are getting rewarded for that behavior? I feel like they don't really understand and its just a coincidence that the mirror or treats come when they do that behavior.

B, when I was clicker training Ninja and Cloud (my first two budgies), I learned that I had to hide the small spray of millet behind my back in between treat times. So to condition to the clicker, I'd click then immediately present the spray of millet to them both for just enough time for them to get a bite and then pull it away and put it back behind my back. Wait a few seconds then another click followed immediately with the millet. Lather, rinse, repeat.

With a mirror, I'd assume I'd do it pretty much the same way but that's just a guess. Whatever the treat is, it would need to be something you can give out in tiny doses otherwise you lose their attention because they're spending too much time on the treat and lose interest in the click-treat game.
