Because he is a baby, and was being weaned. And she wants to make sure he us 100% rdy b4 i take him home. Its 4hr drive each way, if he wasent rdy it be hard 4 us to take him back if he wasent rdy.

how long does it take for them to be weaned? Amazing how many species have babies leaving the nest as early as 10-14 days old (11-12 days for doves who are rather large birds). I am not sure if it coincides with getting completely weaned, but fledging certainly is half way towards getting babies ready to take care of themselves. I absolutely agree that there should be no hurry, as along with getting nutrition babies learn a lot from the parents.

According to this breeder, caiques wean at around 3 months. He's still pretty young looking.
