It's probably because Zorro's being picky. Birds are like that sometimes. I tried giving a pepper to Alex once, and he started making the feed me cry. It's like he was saying: "give me real food!"

I need to get more nutriberries, myself. I ran out recently, and Lucy's starting to eat a lot more seeds than she is pellets. I'm concerned that she's not getting the nutrients she needs. Alex on the other hand seems to like the pellets better than seeds. he's so weird.

I wonder how Lucy will act if one day, I just filled the seed cup with pellets? She would be so disturbed.

I think it's the season. In the wild there's less green vegetables available in the winter.

Different birds have different preferences. Maybe Zorro would like Avicakes better, or maybe he would like the Nutriberries better if you broke them up so they look like loose seed.

Maybe try both.

my tiels will eat Nutriberries whole (although there is quite a bit of waste left in the dish--what is that about?).

For the budgies, I need to crush them, which is a bit of work.

If I provide too many Nutriberries, my tiels will pick out their favorite parts and leave the rest behind. The little black flax seeds are their least favorite part, but I want them to eat those because that's where the Omega 3 fats are. If I don't provide as many Nutriberries they eat everything.

Should there be anything left in the bowl? I know with seeds, the hulls would still be there.

Some of the seeds in Nutriberries have had the hulls removed and some have not. So you'll see some hulls left in the bowl, mostly oat hulls, and some sort of powdery loose debris. My birds don't bother to remove the hulls from the flax seeds and just swallow them whole. Which is OK because the flaxseeds will be ground up in the gizzard, and the bird will get everything inside them.
