How did you combine the cages - cut out one end and fasten them together somehow?
I love the photo where it looks like Mango is kissing Munch's foot. That's going to be the January bird of the month photo.

both cages unhook from their plastic trays... so i did that and turned them both on their sides and tied them together. then i propped it all up with some wood blocks we had lying around and put their trays underneath, they still slide out too!
their old cages including the bases measured 28"x19"x19"
combined into this, it measures 19"x19"x44"!
munch was scratching her head and mango tried to nibble her foot

That was very creative, and a lot less destructive than cutting off the end of the cage. It would probably be easy to turn them back into separate cages if you wanted to.
Do the doors open in weird ways now that they're 90 degrees off from what was originally intended?

they used to be drawbridge style doors where you unclipped them at the top and they pulled down. now they unclip at the side and open sideways. no different really. these are really good cages to turn on their sides. we have 2 of the same cages, these cages are so durable i could likely toss it down the stairs without so much of a dent!

If the lovies need a "porch" to make it easier to go in and out easily, you can attach a rope perch near the door to serve the purpose. Or any kind of shelf/platform perch, or a natural branch with a 90 degree bend in it if you can find one. All my cages have some kind of perch near the door on both the inside and outside to make life easier for the birds.

i do that with the tiels, and ive tried with the lovebirds. they just like to climb up the cage anyways, they ignore any perch i put there lol

That's right, lovies are more acrobatic than tiels. I didn't think of that!

Most cockatiels can't or won't do that although Mims does it a lot. I call her "Spider Tiel" when she does.
